Alleged N2.9m Fraud: Court Refuses Okorocha Bail, Issues Order | READ IN FULL
A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, have refused to grant the bail application filed by senator Rochas Okorocha, former Imo state governor, and a 2023 presidential aspirant under the APC.
Recall that operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), on Tuesday, invaded Okorocha’s Abuja residence and forcefully whisked him away after hours of laying siege as he evaded arrest.
According to EFCC, Okorocha who is standing trial over an alleged N2.9M fraud, was arrested for jumping bail and refusing to honour series of their invitation.
Ruling on a bail application filed by Ola Olanipekun, SAN on behalf of the embattled senator, Justice Inyang Ekwo, refused him bail but ordered his legal representative to put EFCC on notice.
Olanipekun had in a suit marked FHC/ABJ/CR/28/2022, pleaded with the court to grant his client bail on liberal terms pending the hearing and determination of motion on notice.
The ex-parte motion was dated and filed May 26. But Justice Ekwo held that since the matter would be coming up on Monday, May 30, making an order for the release of the lawmaker on bail would be unnecessary.
