JUST IN (FRESH TR0UBLE): Akwa Ibom APC‘s Primary Nullified | READ WHY
The May 26, 2022 governorship primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom state, have been declared null and void by a Federal High Court sitting in Uyo, the state capital.
Delivering judgment on Monday, November 14, 2022, Justice Agatha Okeke, ordered that a fresh governorship primary should be conducted within 14 days of the court’s ruling.
The court disqualified the governorship candidate of the party, Akanimo Udofia, from participating in the fresh primary, on the grounds that he is not a member of the APC in the state.
The court also ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not to recognise Akan Udofia nor accept him as candidate according to section 77 sub-section 3 of the Electoral Act.
The case was filed by a former senator, Ita Enang, who claimed that he was duly elected as the candidate of the APC in Akwa Ibom. He had argued that Udofia is not a member of the party and did not participate in all the stages of the process for electing a governorship candidate of the party.
