The Abia state chapter of the Nigeria Medical Association has threatened to embark on a 72-hour warning strike, to protest government negligence and non payment of salary arrears for the past 11 months.
The Chairman of the body in the state, Dr Carol Iwuoha stated that the strike was imperative to drive home their demands and to force the government to action with respect to their entitlements.
The body had earlier decried the non-payment of salaries and bonuses by the government, making their services less interesting, also bringing the state-owned hospitals to comatose.
Remember that the Abia State Chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), has given the state government up to the end of December 2018, to pay doctors in the employment of the State Health Management Board (HMB), and Abia State University Teaching Hospital (ABSUTH), all their salary arrears or face industrial crisis.
