The House of representatives on Thursday deliberated on the floor of the House the escalated unwarranted blood shed against the Isu Community in Arochukwu Local Government Area of Abia State by their Utuma neighbours in Biase Local Government of Cross River State.
Presenting the motion of urgent importance on the floor, the Member representing Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency, Hon. Uko Nkole explained that he raised a similar motion and that was taken in April 2018, regretting that the National Boundary Commission failed to implement its resolutions on the matter.
He prayed the House in cognizance with section 217(2)(c) of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) to urge the President to as a matter of urgency use his good office to immediately and without further delay, deploy the military to the troubled area and also declare the troubled portion as NO MAN’S Land pending the demarcation and establishment of boundary between Isu in Abia State and Utuma in Cross River State.
The lawmaker urged the National Emergency Management Agency to move in with relief materials in addition to medical and health personnel to treat the wounded women, children and men.
Hon. Nkole further urge the National Boundaries Commission to immediately and without further delay clearly demarcate the boundaries of both communities to avert further clashes.
He also prayed the House to mandate the House Committees on Police, Defence, National Security and Public Safety as well as Legislative Compliance to coordinate these activities and report to the House in 2 weeks.
