TR0UBLE: Prison Officials To Be Probed Over Alleged Aiding Of Terrorists | READ DETAILS
The Federal government has ordered a probe into an allegation that some officials of the Nigeria Correlational Service are aiding arrested terrorists to fund criminal operations outside the walls of the prisons.
This order was given to the Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Haliru Nababa, by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
The probe order followed an allegation made by the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Chris Musa, on Tuesday at the House of Representatives
Reacting to Musa’s claim of prison officials aiding terrorists, the minister condemned the act, vowing that there would be an investigation, adding that anyone found guilty will face the wrath of the law.
“The minister has called for a speedy investigation into the matter, noting that any officer culpable or complicit of sabotaging the Nigerian Correctional Facility, and by extension the security of the country, shall face the full wrath of the law.”
“The minister also wishes to inform the public that actions are underway to reform the correctional service to match international standards where inmates would be truly rehabilitated in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu.
“The era of talks but no action is over. The Renewed Hope administration will not entertain a breach from any officer. We have the interest of the state to protect, and it is above anyone’s interest” a statement released on Thursday by the minister’s media aide, Alao Babatunde, read.
