Why Jose Peseiro Should Not Emulate Gernot Rohr- Ex-Coach, Christian Chukwu
An ex-coach of the Super Eagles, Christian Chukwu has weighed in on the NFF’s appointment of Portuguese coach, Jose Peseiro.
The nation’s football governing body, Nigeria Football Federation, NFF has confirmed 62-year-old as the new permanent head coach of Nigeria’s top flight team, Super Eagles.
The Portuguese International will be at the squad’s rein of affairs in the upcoming international friendlies against Ecuador and Mexico.
He is also charged with preparing the three-time African champions for the 2023 AFCON qualifiers.
Reacting to the NFF’s move, 71-year-old Christian has cautioned the new handler against emulating his predecessor, Gernot Rohr.
Rohr, during his five and half year stint with the team barely resided in Nigeria. The 68-year-old Franco-German also did not enlist players from the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) in the team.
Speaking in an interview session with Lagos-based Brila FM, the former defender said;
“I’m very happy so that it does not delay our preparation for Nations Cup qualifiers and let’s see what he will do when he comes,
I will like him to live here, monitor our leagues and our players; let him not be like Rohr who stayed in Germany. Then days to the match, he will come back to the country with the players and so on.
I will like this one to stay in Nigeria if they have accommodation for him and everything and let’s see how it goes.”
