Why We Awarded Election Contract To APC Guber Candidate, Binani – INEC Explains
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has explained why it awarded the contract of printing sensitive election materials to Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed popularly known as Binani, the APC governorship candidate in Adamawa State.
INEC came under fire for awarding the contract to Binani Printing Press Limited, owned by Ahmed.
Clearing the air, INEC in a statement released on Thursday and signed by Festus Okoye, National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee explained that “procurement in the Commission go through open competitive bidding and Binani Printing Press Limited was one of the security printing companies that applied to print security document for INEC”.
The Commission added that it awarded the contract to Binani after inspecting the company’s facility and proper check with the Corporate Affairs Commission, however, Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed was not listed as one of the directors of Binani Printing Press Limited.
“The Commission decided to print all the security documents for the 2023 general election in the country to help Nigerian printers and assist in growing the national economy” the statement added.
