Hauwa Muhammed a.k.a Jaruma, a popular Kayamata (aphrodisiac) seller, has been re-arrested after insulting business tycoon Ned Nwoko on social media.
Following a petition by Nwoko to the FCT police command, Jaruma was arraigned and remanded by an Abuja Upper Area Court until a bail hearing set for Friday.
Nwoko had accused Jaruma of spreading lies about him and his actress wife, Regina Daniels, on her Instagram page. He stated that Jaruma claimed in an Instagram post that she paid Regina N10 million to promote her Kayanmata, but that she was duped by the actress.
She then proceeded to trash Nwoko on Instagram, accusing him of profiting from her merchandise.
Jaruma was charged with defamation of character, false news publication, and intimidation by the police.
Nwoko had reported the case to the FCT Police Command for thorough investigation through a written petition from his lawyer on January 20, 2021, according to the Police Prosecutor, E. A Inegbenoise. Inegbenoise pleaded with the court to keep Jaruma in police custody awaiting the outcome of the investigation.
In her oral plea for release, her counsel, Mr James Odibe, requested the court to grant the defendant bail on self-recognition or, in the alternative, on the most liberal terms possible.
Ismailia Abdullahi, the judge, decided that the defendant be remanded in Suleja Correctional Centre pending the Friday bail hearing. He also postponed the hearing until February 23, 2021.
