See The Punishment IGP Gave To Policemen Who Ran Over A Citizen In Edo | READ DETAILS

The Acting Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has disbanded the team of policemen who ran over a handcuffed citizen in the Ekpoma area of Edo state.

A video had gone viral on Thursday, showing a man identified simply as Success lying on the floor with his hands cuffed. Success was reportedly handcuffed by the police officers because he failed to cooperate with them during a stop and search exercise along Ihumudumu Road, Ekpoma Esan West LGA.

Following the incident, the policemen involved in that criminal act were invited to Abuja by the IGP for questioning.

A statement released on July 6, by CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Force PRO said the IGP has disbanded the team in a bid to “to regularize and standardize police operations in the axis; and restore public trust in the Police Force”.

It added that the involved personnel are currently facing disciplinary charges and administrative procedures.

The statement read;

EDO POLICE MISCONDUCT:

In a bold move to address the unprofessional conduct of some Police Officers attached to the Edo State Police Command who were responsible for running over a citizen at Ekpoma, the Acting Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, has taken the decisive action of disbanding the team forthwith. This step aims to regularize and standardize police operations in the axis; and restore public trust in the Police Force.

Additionally, the operatives involved are currently facing disciplinary charges and administrative procedures. This move underscores the commitment of the IGP to hold officers accountable for their actions which will never be tolerated in the Nigeria Police Force.

The Inspector-General of Police reiterates his commitment to ensuring the highest standards of professionalism and ethics, while urging members of the public to always cooperate with Police Officers in the discharge of their statutory duties.
