Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has firmly rejected President Tinubu’s tax reform bills, labeling them ill-timed and detrimental. Read reasons below;

The Kano State Government has outrightly rejected President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s proposed tax reform bills, citing their potential to harm the already struggling population.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, through his deputy Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, made the declaration during the grand New Year celebration at Filin Mahaha, Kofar Naisa open theatre. The event, attended by thousands, featured music, cultural displays, and a spectacular fireworks display to welcome 2025.

“The proposed tax reforms are ill-timed, lopsided, and detrimental to the unity of our country,” Gwarzo stated. He pointed out that the northern region, in particular, is grappling with hyperinflation, insecurity, and extreme poverty. “This tax reform bill is not the solution to our economic challenges. Kano State stands firmly against any policy that negatively affects the welfare of our people,” he added, receiving widespread applause.

The deputy governor also used the platform to highlight the administration’s strides in healthcare, education, road construction, and foreign scholarship initiatives. He reiterated the government’s focus on improving the quality of life for Kano residents.

Referring to the Supreme Court ruling in January 2024, which confirmed Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf as the legitimate governor, Gwarzo called it a victory for democracy. He also celebrated the reinstatement of Emir Malam Muhammadu Sanusi II, a move he described as aligning with the people’s will.

The New Year celebration showcased Kano’s rich cultural heritage, featuring renowned Hausa artists who entertained the crowd. Families and friends gathered in a joyous atmosphere, underscoring the state’s commitment to preserving its cultural identity.

As the clock struck midnight, a dazzling fireworks display lit up the Kano skyline, symbolizing hope and renewal. Addressing the crowd, the deputy governor encouraged citizens to remain united and resilient in 2025.

“Let 2025 be a year of shared prosperity and progress. Together, we will build a stronger Kano,” he declared.

Earlier, the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Yusuf Jibril Falgore, extended his New Year greetings, urging residents to support the government’s efforts to deliver the dividends of democracy.
