Why Erondu Wanted Me Impeached – ABHA Speaker, Chinedum Orji
Following his failed impeachment, the Speaker of the 7th Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Engineer Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji, has fingered Erondu Uchenna Erondu Jnr, a former aide to governor Okezie Ikpeazu and the member-elect for Obingwa West State Constituency, as the sponsor of his purported impeachment.
The Speaker while speaking exclusively to ALL FACTS NEWSPAPER, stated that Erondu sponsored “the show of shame” exhibited by the lawmakers who moved for his purported impeachment because he (Erondu) wants to become Speaker of the House even as a first timer and also because he bears a grudge against Orji as he believes that Chinedum Orji had wanted to impeach governor Okezie Ikpeazu.
Recall that in February 2020 and March 2023, there were speculations that the Abia state House of Assembly led by Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji was plotting to impeach Governor Ikpeazu.
Speaking on Friday, May 5, 2023, Orji said Erondu because of that assumption, felt he (Orji) was not loyal to the governor which partly prompted his alleged sponsoring of the Tuesday, May 2, 2023 impeachment crisis of the Speaker.
“Personal interest has a lot to do with what transpired within this period. Personal interest by groups, few individuals that feel that they are close to the governor of the state played a major role in what Abians saw.
“To me it was a show of shame. one of his aides, by name, Erondu Jnr, wanted the rules of the House to be amended.
“You cannot because you are acting as an assistant governor, decide that I am your stumbling block to becoming the speaker of the 8th Assembly; you now decide that since I refused for that rule to be amended that a lot of propaganda should be spilled against my person.
“I don’t believe that it is my responsibility to determine for the next governor of Abia state who the speaker should be or how he tends to go about the inauguration of the 8th Assembly.
“If I impeach him (Ikpeazu), am I going to be the governor? of course no. If I impeach the governor, of what benefit will it be to me?.
“This is the story that has characterised my tenure as Speaker and it is the same reason that this said aide (Erondu) now recruited some people to give the impression that I am not loyal to the governor” Orji said.
