Why Bauchi PDP Guber Candidate, Ibrahim Kashim Stepped Down | READ DETAILS
Former secretary to Bauchi state government, Ibrahim Kashim, who recently emerged flag bearer of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2023 governorship election in the state, has stepped down.
Kashim was declared winner of the guber primary election held on Monday, May 20 after he polled 655 votes being unopposed. He however, has now stepped down as the party’s flag bearer for the state governor, Bala Mohammed.
Recall that Mohammed had contested at the PDP Presidential primary where he lost over the weekend. On his return, Kashim voluntarily stepped down to allow his principal continue the bid.
According to the PDP state publicity secretary, Alhaji Yayanuwa Zainabari, a re-run of the guber primary would hold on Saturday.
Speaking to Guardian on why he stepped down, Kashim said;
“It is absolutely true that I have withdrawn my candidature. I know right from day one that if the governor didn’t get the PDP presidential ticket, I will definitely step down for him (to vie for re-election). The report that I have problem with him on anything is absolutely false.
“How can you stop somebody who is working from continuing his work? For me, it was a no-brainer at all. I have already submitted my withdrawal letter to the party in Bauchi before I left for Abuja.”
Meanwhile, Governor Bala Mohammed still stands a chance to become the party’s flag bearer to complete a two tenure.
