Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State, was on Sunday, sacked by a court of appeal sitting in Plateau state.

A three-member panel of Justices, led by Justice Elfrieda Williams-Dawodu unanimously held that Mutfwang was not validly nominated and sponsored by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to participate in the governorship election of March 18, 2023 according to Section 177 of the Constitution.

It held that all the votes that were credited to him and the PDP after the election amounted to wasted votes.

The court ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to withdraw the Certificate of Return earlier issued to Mutfwang.

It ordered that the candidate that got the second majority lawful votes (Nentawe Goshwe, APC) at the election, should be sworn in as governor of the state.

Mutfwang had polled 525,299 votes while Goshwe, polled 481,370.

Goshwe challenged the victory of Mutfwang at the tribunal claiming that the governor was not validly nominated and sponsored by his party, neither did his party comply with the provisions of the 2022 Electoral Act.
