A chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Mohammed Jammal, has reacted to the alleged appointment of Bashir Ahmad as the new head of a unit within the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR).
An online news medium had claimed that the President appointed his New Media Aide to head a unit in DPR.
The new medium quoted State House officials familiar with the appointment as saying that Ahmad got the appointment in early January, but his documentation took place last week.
“Bashir got the appointment early January, but his documentation took place last week,” a State House official said.
“It was delayed following the death of one of his friends, Jamilu Ibrahim Shinkafi, in an accident along Bauchi-Nasarawa Road, precisely in Akwanga in Nasarawa.
“The fatal auto crash was said to have occurred whilst the deceased was returning from the wedding of Ibrahim Rabo, an aide to communications minister Isa Pantami on January 31.
“It was the wedding that Bashir was seen amongst those not on face masks. So they deferred the conclusion of his documentation by a week before it was finally concluded last week.”
Reacting to the alleged appointment, Jammal asked critics to congratulate the media aide since they have been shouting for youth inclusion in government.
In a tweet via his Twitter handle on Monday, the APC chieftain added that critics should mind their business if even the President appoint Ahmad as the NNPC GMD.
He wrote: “But even if they appoint Bashir as NNPC GMD wettin concern you? You should be congratulating him since you have been shouting for youth in inclusion. Like I don’t understand.”
However, Bashir Ahmad has denied news that he has been appointed as the new head of a unit within the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR).
Reacting via a tweet on his Twitter account, the presidential aide debunked the news, describing it as totally false.
He wrote: “A friend sent me a link to a concocted story from an online news blog that the President has quietly appointed me as a manager of the DPR, a department of Ministry of Petroleum Resources, for those who want to know the truth, the story is 100% FALSE. I am not a staff of the DPR.”
