Trouble In Aba, As Thugs Unleash Mayhem On Family That Tried Stopping Them From Collecting Levies | SEE PHOTOS

 

 

Despite Governor Alex Otti’s order for the immediate suspension of all forms of revenue collections in Abia State, some thugs are still adamant as they have continued to torture and extort poor Abians of their hard earned money.

 

Governor Otti had on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, ordered the suspension of transportation levies collected by touts in Umuahia and Aba, the commercial city.

 

However, in disobedience to the governor’s order, some thugs on Thursday, attacked a family in Aba after one Eberechi Jumbo tried to stop them from carrying on with their extortion.

Narrating the incident of Thursday, June 1, to ALL FACTS NEWSPAPER, Jumbo Adaeze, said the thugs led by one Timi Kamalu, arrived the pit at Okpu-Umuopo junction by Union bank, Aba and was collecting revenue from tricycle (keke) operators.

 

Adaeze’s brother, identified as Eberechi asked Timi Kamalu and his colleagues to stop collecting revenue as the governor had already put a stop to it.

Kamalu was said to have made a phone call after which some other thugs arrived on bike, wielding knives and guns. They attacked Eberechi and his mother, Mrs Pleasure Jumbo, who tried to stop them from assaulting her son, leaving her with injuries.

Eberechi ran away and is currently in hiding as Kamalu and his colleagues have continued threatening to kill him. Mrs Jumbo was hospitalised at Area Command hospital due to the injuries the thugs inflicted on her.

 

In Adaeze Jumbo’s words;

 

“It was about 6:30 am on Thursday, June 1; my younger brother (Eberechi Jumbo) came out, saw people collecting money from keke riders. He told the keke riders that they should not pay that the governor has said it that they should not pay any revenue again.

“One of the taskforce officials by name Timi Kamalu; he called some boys, they came on bike and they started beating my younger brother. He had to run because they had knives.

 

“My mom ran out; we know one of the guys, he is a thug that works with former Osisioma LGA Chairman, who is their leader. My mom was begging them to stop but they started beating her and took her phone and her money.

 

“They left and came back with guns and my brothers ran away. Since then, the three thugs Timi Kamalu, Chinwendu Chikwendu, the other person we don’t know his name, has been threatening to kill my brother. They abandoned the bike they came with.

 

“We have reported the matter to world bank police station, but they are not taking the matter serious. e want to report it to State CID in Umuahia.”

 

Speaking also to ALL FACTS NEWSPAPER, Mrs Jumbo who has been discharged from the hospital, narrated;

“Yesterday morning, they came to the pit to collect money. One of my boys told them that the governor has ordered a stop on all forms of revenue collection for the main time. The man called thugs on phone, they came and started beating my son.

 

“I heard the noise that was why I came out. They were two; One broke a bottle to stab my son, the other threw stones at him and he ran away. I tried to stop them and they started beating me; I had blood all over my body. I’ve reported to World Bank police station but I want to withdraw the case there and take it to SCID Umuahia”.

 

The family called on the Abia state governor, Dr Alex Otti and the state police command to come to their rescue as their lives are being threatened by Timi Kamalu and his colleagues.
