Police in Oyo State have arrested two teenage brothers, Waliu Abd Razaq and Iliaz Abdul Razaq, as well as their father, AbdulRasaq Padun, for the kidnap and mu-rder of an 8-year-old boy, Raheem Bamimore.
Bamimore was reported missing on Friday, March 4, 2022, in Saki town and discovered dead on Sunday, March 6, in an uncompleted building along Ogbooro road, in Al-Barka area.
Raheem was said to have returned home from school about 12:30 p.m. on that fateful Friday, dropped his backpack, and dashed out with two sachets of water, but he did not return home, prompting his parents to raise an alarm and proclaim him missing.
According to the deceased’s twin brother, they were already at the gate of their parents’ house when some neighbors approached him for a talk before he entered the house.
When the teenagers were apprehended and questioned about Raheem, they claimed they had no knowledge of his disappearance. Residents discovered the boy’s remains not long after, and made a distress call to Amotekun Corps operatives, who apprehended the suspects on Monday, March 7.
During interrogation, one of the suspects, AbdulRasaq, admitted that they planned to kidnap AbdulRaheem in order to extort money from his father by luring him to a building.
Unfortunately for them, the boy recognized their faces because they lived in the same neighborhood, and the second accomplice, AbdulRasaq’s brother Waliu, gave the boy rat poison to drink out of fear that AbdulRaheem would readily tell how he had been manhandled and tied up to his parents.
During interrogation, Iliaz Abdul Razaq, one of the suspects said:
“While he was coming back from school, we were all seated at one side of the field and then my elder brother said Rheem’s father is a rich man and when I asked why he said that he responded that we should kidnap him. I told him we should leave him(Raheem) alone but he insisted we should kidnap him. He told me to go speak with him (Raheem) and so I met him and asked where his brother was and he responded his brother was home. So my brother told him to go home and come back which he did and when he came back, he was given one mango fruit and was told to come along with us into a building. The last I saw the child was when we spoke until i was called to the building until i saw him in the building. When I came in and saw him, he greeted me and i responded by asking how he was doing and then i told my brother I wasn’t comfortable with what was happening and that the boy should be allowed to go home. They (my brother and our friend) insisted that he must be kept there because if he gets released, he would tell his parents how he was kidnapped and tied by them and I told the boy not to report us to his parents which he agreed and then i went back to my brother to tell him to release he(Raheem) and that he would not report and they agreed to release him and they agreed while I left and that was how they poisoned him with rat poison. That’s all I know about it.” Iliaz Abdul, one of the teenagers said.
