South-East Governors’ Forum has called on Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State and former governor Rochas Okorocha to halts attacks at each other.
Okorocha was on Sunday arrested for unsealing the Royal Palm Estate sealed by the state government under the leadership of Uzodinma.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, Orlando Ikeokwu, while speaking with newsmen in Owerri, the state capital, confirmed Okorocha’s arrest.
He added that the Senator and immediate past Imo State Governor was arrested for violently breaking into the government-sealed Royal palm spring estate along Akachi road in Owerri.
Ikeokwu further stated that police moved to the scene following a distress call that the Royal Palm spring Estate sealed by the government had been violently opened by men led by Okorocha.
But reacting in a statement signed by the S/East governors forum chairman and governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi, the governors assured the two political leaders of Imo State of their preparedness to settle the disputes internally.
Umahi said: “The South-east Governors’ Forum sues for peace between governor Hope Uzodimma and former governor of Imo State Rochas Okorocha.
“Southeast Governors’ Forum has decided to wade into the impasse ensuing between Governor Hope Uzodimma and the former Governor of Imo State, Senator Rochas Okorocha.”
He stated that the S/East forum have asked Uzodima and Okorocha to cease fire, adding that the parties to the dispute had agreed for a truce.
“We call for calm among the supporters of the two political heavyweights to ensure a timely and amicable resolution of the disagreement within the shortest possible time.
“We call on people of Imo State and the South East Zone to go about their normal businesses and shun provocative statements until normalcy is completely restored between the former Governor and his successor,” the forum stated.
