The member-elect for the Arochukwu State Constituency at the Abia State House of Assembly, Dr Michael Onyekwere Ukoha has said that only a man of impeccable integrity will be allowed to be speaker of the state’s 9th legislative Assembly.
Speaking to AFN, Dr Ukoha said that the first quality of a speaker is that such a person must be willing to serve everyone in his constituency. ” Such a person with must be an impeccable leader, with integrity and honesty. He must be someone who will not insist on his way; a man of honor, not one guided by his own personal interest.”
Dr Ukoha who was elected on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, said that as a first-time parliamentarian, he is going with open mind to work with people across all platforms to ensure that the dividends of democracy are delivered to the people.
When questioned on his position as a member of the minority in the house, and the possibility of defection, he refused to entertain any thought of defection, as he said that political parties were only platforms for delivering the dividends of democracy to the people.
Dr Ukoha also debunked the idea of vying for any principal position, as he said that will be if God chooses him to be the minority leader. He emphasized that he will be bringing his experience to bear at the legislative chamber, and will reach out to all parties to ensure that the people of his constituents are well represented.
