Terrorists: Northern Senators Send Important Message To Tinubu After Benue Visit

The Northern Senators Forum (NSF) has urged the federal government to provide the military and other security agencies with advanced weaponry to effectively tackle terrorism and insurgency throughout the nation.

In a statement released on Wednesday and signed by the forum’s chairman, Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua, the senators denounced the recent assaults in Benue state, where over 100 individuals lost their lives due to suspected herdsmen.

The lawmakers expressed their condolences to the families of the victims and wished a swift recovery to the injured.

The NSF praises President Bola Tinubu’s visit to the affected regions, highlighting the government’s dedication to confronting security issues, as stated in the announcement.

“We urge the federal government to follow up with concrete actions to ensure justice and prevent future occurrences.

“The NSF calls for increased funding for the military and other security agencies to acquire the necessary modern equipment needed to prosecute the war against terrorists and insurgents.

“Furthermore, inter-agency collaboration is crucial; we urge the government to facilitate regular dialogue and coordination among security agencies.

“The NSF remains committed to working with the government and stakeholders to address security challenges,” the statement reads.

The forum urged Nigerians to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities, emphasising that national security is a collective responsibility.

Earlier on Tuesday, the spokesperson for the senate, Yemi Adaramodu, expressed the chamber’s sorrow over the reports of scores of fatalities in Yelwata, Benue state.

During a media briefing on Tuesday in Abuja, Adaramodu stated that the senate is weary of merely offering condolences.

The lawmaker remarked that the upper legislative chamber is heartbroken by the ongoing loss of lives in various regions of the country, particularly in Plateau, Benue, Borno, and Zamfara states.
