The Senate has finally made clarification on it confirming an Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Board nominee, who was said to have started school before he was born.
Recall that controversies followed the confirmation of a nominee, Yahaya Muhammad who had discrepancies in his date of birth and school age.
Member representing Jigawa east, Senator Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia , had brought to the House notice, that Muhammad’s credentials showed that he started schooling even before he was born on earth.
However, the senate went ahead to confirm him and 4 others nominated by the President, Muhammadu Buhari.
Muhammad’s confirmation stirred reactions and caused tongues to wag.
Following reactions, the Chairman, Senate anti- corruption committee, Suleiman Kwari released a statement to clarify the controversy.
He said;
“An observation was made by Senator Hadejia on the floor of the Senate to point out the typographical error misstating the year of birth to 1969 rather than 1959. The resume of the nominee, Alhaji Yahaya Mohammad, is hereby attached for public scrutiny.
“The resumé of the nominee was not presented before the senate. Rather, it was the report of the senate committee on anti-corruption and financial crimes that was presented before the committee” Kwari said.
