… Advises on the need to prevent crime
Comrade Rodney Onwuka, the Director General, Fact Initiative, an Anti-Cultism and Terrorism Organization, has congratulated the newly appointed Service Chiefs, in particular, the new Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Awwal Zabairu Gambo.
The comrade while congratulating the service chiefs on their appointments, pointed out some security challenges facing the country .
Comrade Onwuka revealed that criminal Justice system in the country is not effective, this is because of the fact that the four basic elements of the implementation of the system is not working harmoniously.
He lamented that the correctional services were not doing much as regards to preparing inmates to live a purposeful lives after serving their terms in prison .
He accused correctional service facilities of rendering ex -convicts ‘less fit’ to adapt with the society.
He also mentioned that the punishment ethic adopted by the criminal Justice system, has continued to fail because of its wrong fundamental principle. Adding that there is need to adopt rehabilitation ideology instead of embracing punishment.
Comrade Onwuka also advised the new chiefs to seek to prevent crimes before it happens to reduce crime in the country.
In his words; “the most important single objective the new security chief’s should pursue if they want to reduce violent crime and Terrorism in our society, is to seek to prevent crime before it happens.
” And this is by assuming all Nigerians has a stake in its benefits and responsibility of a Nigerian life” he said.
