A concern Nigeria who visited Aba North Local Government Headquarters for NIN registration has alleged that the federal government officers in charge are collecting between #1,500 to #2000 before attending to people who wants to get registered.
According him while briefing AFNEWS on this ugly development wondered if there is still any government agency in the country free of bribery and corruption.
” How can we be in an administration that claim to be fighting corruption yet , we are having an everyday surge in corruption”
” It is unfortunate and belittling that such thing is happening in Aba North at this period when the Federal Government has giving an ultimatum for this registration.”
He question the rationale behind the collection of 2, 000 “why are they asking for 2,000 at Aba North over National Identity Card registration”
Government sources said In order to obtain a Nigerian National Identification Card, an individual must register with the National Identity Management commission of Nigeria.
The registration process involves creation of digital identities; it is a one time process where an individual is required to go to the registration centre where personal information, fingerprints and digital photograph are captured for identification.
After submission of form, biometric data of applicant is captured by the Mobile Registration Workstation (MRW) Operator:. At this level the fingerprints of applicant are taken, the digital photo and signature are also taken and the height of applicant is measured.
This is supposed to be free of charge but why are these officers Collecting Bribe before attending to people . He is therefore asking for an investigation so that the culpable staff involved in this extortion would be punished.
