ABIA: Asiforo Okere, Okezie Ikpeazu Behind The Failure Of PDP – Party Chieftain, Megwara Knocks | WATCH VIDEO
A Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State, Chief Kingsley Megwara has fingered the immediate past governor of the State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu and the party’s chairman, Asiforo Okere as the key players to the downfall of PDP in the state.
According to Megwara, Ikpeazu’s 8 years in office made PDP’s poor performance in Abia state the worse in 24 years coupled with the poor leadership exhibited by Asiforo Okere which contributed to Abians rejecting the party at the 2023 polls.
Appearing on AF-TELEVISION Programme “Focal Point” on Thursday, Megwara blamed Okere and Ikpeazu for not heeding to the voice of truth when they had the opportunity to make amends, adding that “PDP dug the hole it is currently in and all members of the party are licking the wounds.”
“Several of us are very saddened by our performance in the last general election. Some of us had been shouting since 5 years when we saw all the warning signs that things were not gelling, we spoke out.
“I was shouting; I even predicted that the then governor was in trouble in his senatorial zone; we saw all of these coming and nobody listened and today we are collectively suffering. For 24 years, folks argued that we have held sway here in Abia state and the electorates were not happy with our performances and the last administration even made it worse.
“I do not blame Abia electorates who in my opinion are very sophisticated; nobody can take the Abia electorates for granted anymore but we were the causes of our own loses. We dug the hole for ourselves and this is where we found ourselves” the chieftain said.
Speaking on those responsible for the problems of PDP in Abia state, Megwara said;
“Principally, I blame the former governor, my friend, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu for being part of the problem and the party chairman, Chief Asiforo Okere”.
Buttressing further he said;
“The performances of Ikpeazu for this 8 years did not meet the test for a lot of Abians . Among all of the Igbo states in Nigeria today, we are at the back of all of the indices with which we can judge any administration.
“Abia has not done very well and the man who had been at the hems of the affair for the last 8 years is Dr Okezie Ikpeazu.
“Secondly, the management of our party in the state was terrible and that is why I said that there is no way that Dr Asiforo Okere can exclude himself from what happened to us. He is the head of the party in this state and he supervised the three man delegate in this state which started our problems. We began to loose quality men and women who helps us in elections.”
Megwara compared Ebonyi with Abia state and noted that though Abia received more IGR and Federal allocations than Ebonyi state, the former governor, Dave Umahi performed more than Ikpeazu.
“You do not go into election owning your workers and pensioners. Abia electorates were very angry at us and they took it out on us on the election days” he added.
According to Megwara the confusions that led to the terrible performance of the party during the elections could have been stopped if the party leadership listened to advices.
“Today, PDP members in this state, we are licking our wounds and those wounds are man-made” Megwara added.
