Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun and Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo have been elected as Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Southern Governors’ Forum, respectively. The elections were part of the decisions made at the forum’s meeting held in Abeokuta.
Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has been elected as the new Chairman of the Southern Governors’ Forum, succeeding the late former Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu. Additionally, Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has emerged as the Vice Chairman of the Forum.
The elections of Governors Abiodun and Soludo were concluded at the end of the Southern Governors’ Forum meeting, held at the Presidential Lodge in GRA Ibara, Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State. The announcement was made by Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwoolu.
Out of the 17 governors that make up the Forum, 16 attended the meeting, with only Rivers State Governor, Similayi Fubara, absent. Several governors were physically present, while others were represented by their deputies.

Deputy Governors Chinyere Ekomaru (Imo), Monday Onyeme (Delta), and Olayide Adelami (Ondo) represented their respective governors.
Speaking with journalists after the meeting, Governor Abiodun expressed his gratitude to his colleagues for electing him as the Chairman of the Forum.
“It is indeed an honor and a humble one at that, that I have been nominated to lead the Southern Governors’ Forum, alongside Professor Charles Soludo, the Governor of Anambra State, as the Vice Chairman of this forum,” Abiodun said. He emphasized the commitment of the Southern States to occupy their pride of place.
Governor Abiodun also pledged to ensure that the confidence placed in him and Governor Soludo is justified. “We have discussed a whole range of issues, and because of time constraints, myself and Governor Soludo will make available to you pressmen the details of our communique that reflects our aspirations, our determination, and the new and repositioned Southern Governors’ Forum,” he added.
The meeting marks the first gathering of the Forum in about three years, underscoring the commitment and determination of the Southern Governors to address regional issues and enhance cooperation.
