The President of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Olumide Akpata has frowned over the move of the federal government against End SARS protesters.
While describing the freezing of banks accounts of those perceived as sponsors of the protest as well as the seizure of international passport of one of the coordinators of the protest as a wrong move, the NBA President on Saturday, stated that lawyers are not smiling over the development.
Akpata in a post on his verified Facebook account also decried the continued alleged threat on DJ Switch who had on October 20 raised the alarm of the Lekki shooting via her Instagram live.
Recall that during the week, Moe Odele had cried out over the seizure of her passport by the Nigerian Immigration Service, NIS, with the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN also freezing the accounts of those alleged to have backed the nationwide protests.
The NBA President Facebook post read, “With all that’s going on in the aftermath of the #ENDSARS protests, Lawyers are definitely not smiling! @djswitch_ has gone into hiding after receiving threatening phone calls, Moe Odele’s passport was seized and she has been prevented from travelling outside the country and Rinu Oduala and many others have had their accounts frozen by the CBN…this was not the deal.”
Meanwhile, the federal government has continued to receive backlash from various quarters over the move.
