Mourinho Reacts To Rooney’s Plan To Hurt Chelsea Players | READ DETAILS
Roma’s Manager, Jose’ Mourinho has come to the defence of former Manchester United striker, Wayne Rooney after he revealed he wanted “to hurt” Chelsea players.
The Derby County manager disclosed he wore longer studs than usual at United’s outing to Stamford Bridge in 2006 to prevent the Blues from getting the desired win to help clinch the Premier League title.
Mourinho, who was at Chelsea’s rein of affairs at that time, however led the team to a 3-0 win against United, emerging as consecutive league title winners.
36- year- old Rooney said;
“I changed my studs before the game. I put longer studs in because I wanted to hurt someone.”
If Chelsea won a point, they won the league. At the time, I couldn’t take it. The studs were legal, they were a legal size, but they were bigger than what I would normally wear.”
Sticking up for the striker, Mourinho insisted a fellow sportsman’s perspective of the situation is quite different.
The Portuguese asserted;
“Probably some people will say, ‘Wow, that’s not a very nice thing to do, to feel or to say.
But for football people like me we look at it from a different perspective.
He’s just a young guy who is upset and frustrated, and who doesn’t accept to lose a title for the second time [in a row], which for me means a lot in relation to the character.”
