THE ABIA STATE SCHOOL SPORTS FESTIVAL 2020 and OKEZIE IKPEAZU TABLE TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIP CUP are the first of it’s kind and biggest school sports activities ever in Abia state, aimed at discovering grassroot talents and exposing other sporting events other than football to schools and grassroots.
It involves all public and government approved private schools in Abia State and 850 schools from all the 17 local government have shown interest to participate by completing and returning the free participation forms.
The festival is show casing 18 different sporting events to decentralise that concentration only on football and introducing other sports.Each sport event has male and female categories and the competition shall be played in local government, zonal and finals at the state capital.
The 28th February 2020 is the UNVEILING AND KICK OFF CEREMONIES OF FESTIVAL @ OSUSU AMAUKWA MODEL PRIMARY SCHOOL OBINGWA which involves the unveiling of the festival mascot,logo,jiggle associated with the lighting effects,the release of pigeon and balloons and the human mascot followed by the liting of ABIA TORCH OF UNITY .The 3 TORCHES shall be lited by the Governor and will travel the 17 local government in the three senatorial zones of the state simultaneously and return on the 3rd of march for opening ceremony.
The duel between the Governor of Abia State DR OKEZIE IKPEAZU and Governor DAV UMAHI in Table Tennis hit will kick off the entire Festival.
We are expecting as guests the Hon.Minister of youth and sports as well as the Youth and Sports commissioners in Anambra, Enugu,Ebonyi state and former sports commission chairman Imo state has given their words to grace the occasion.
