INEC is investigating claims of falsified polling results in the Edo governorship election, following allegations that an INEC staff inflated votes in favor of APC at a polling unit in Etsako East LGA. The PDP demands the prosecution of those responsible.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has pledged to investigate serious allegations of falsified polling unit results during the Edo State governorship election. Reports surfaced that INEC staff in certain polling units allegedly inflated the vote count in favor of the All Progressives Congress (APC), raising concerns over the credibility of the election process.
Controversial Result Compilation
One incident that sparked outrage involved Obozuwa Josephine, an INEC presiding officer, who reportedly recorded a total of 406 votes at Osholo Primary School in Weppa Ward, Etsako East LGA, despite the fact that only 213 voters were accredited. The inflated votes were allegedly allocated to the APC, sparking calls for her arrest by opposition parties.
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP), through its spokesperson, Debo Ologunagba, condemned the incident, accusing Josephine of “criminally and fraudulently” awarding non-existent votes to the APC. The PDP is now demanding the arrest and prosecution of Josephine and others allegedly involved.
INEC’s Commitment to Transparency
INEC, in a post on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, acknowledged the complaint and promised to immediately investigate the irregularities. The electoral body emphasized its commitment to addressing any proven misconduct swiftly to maintain electoral integrity.
