The House of Representatives has summoned the Minister for Information, Lai Mohammed, concerning the legality of Twitter ban in the country.
Speaker of the House, Femi Gbajabiamila, in his opening address at the plenary on Tuesday, June 8, noted that Twitter had become a huge communication tool and platform for enterprise especially for the teeming youth in the country.
Gbajabiamila said the lawmakers had been bathed with protests and demands for intervention by the parliament.
He noted that the House of Representatives will, investigate the factors responsible for the Federal Government’s decision to ban Twitter in Nigeria and the laws upon which the action was based within 10 days.
However, the speaker noted that the House also needs to hear from the government, especially the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, who issued the directive suspending the social media app in the country.
Gbajabiamila, directed the relevant committees of the House to invite the minister to explain the bases and reasons of the federal government.
