GABON COUP: President Ali Bongo’s Son, Loyalists, Arrested | READ WHY
Gabonese military officers who staged the coup in the country, have arrested the son of President Ali Bongo and some of his loyalists for alleged treason, corruption and embezzlement.
Bongo’s son, Noureddin Bongo Valentin, was reportedly arrested on Wednesday, few days after the coup took place and his father placed on house arrest.
“Bongo’s son and close adviser Noureddin Bongo Valentin, his chief of staff Ian Ghislain Ngoulou as well as his deputy, two other presidential advisers and the two top officials in the ruling Gabonese Democratic Party (PDG) have been arrested”.
“They are accused of treason, embezzlement, corruption and falsifying the president’s signature, among other allegations, a military source said.
The military takeover in Gabon is the latest spreading across West and Central Africa, as the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is still battling with Niger Republic’s crisis that happened on July 26.
