The major political parties in the state have traded blames and accused themselves over the incident that shook the media space over the weekend, where a young man identified as Felix Obisike was allegedly caught with election results which showed the PDP wining all posts in the state.
While addressing a press briefing, the Special Assistant on media to the Gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Great Imo Jonathan, has described the incident as ugly and a clear-cut picture of the what the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has in stock in the state.
Mr Jonathan narrated how the suspect was caught, saying that there has been a story of an assassination threat on the life of his principal Dr Uche Sampson Ogah, which necessitated the need for extra measures to be taken.
However, Great Imo went ahead to say that “a certain Giaus came to the APC office and went on taking pictures and sending to another of his accomplice who was compiling these pictures for their sinister motive. He ran out of luck as he was apprehended by the security men in our office and his accomplice one Mr Felix Obisike traced and gotten. It was however discovered by security Operatives after a search that he had in possession, results of the elections that was still to be held on Saturday.
In his own response, the Special Assistant on Job Creation and Youth Development, Honourable Chinenye Nwaogu countered the narrative of Imo Jonathan, saying “the Gaius who he said was spying on them is an N-power recipient who got a spurious message from a number informing him of a meeting at the APC campaign office. In the said meeting, after having noticed what happened and how scanty the place was, decided to notify the ambassador of the program in the state, the said Mr Felix Obisike.
“It was in this process that Gaius was kidnapped and used as a bait to get Felix who was brutalized before the intervention of the Department of State Security (DSS).”
Mr Nwaogu went further to say that the allegations of possession of election result sheet leveled against Felix were not only false, but also ridiculous, saying thatit was planted by members of the APC so as to raise false alarm, and also does not look like what an original result sheet should look like.
He went on to say that while Felix is under the protective custody of the DSS, and under intense medical care following sever injuries sustained from the brutal beatings dealt on him by the thugs of the APC, Gauis is still at large following threats to his life by members of the APC.
When contacted, the Department of state security (DSS) declined giving information on on the issue and said the matter was still being investigated, they also refused confirmation of custody of the said Felix.
The twist and turns of this story still remain unfolded, as the both parties can be seen to be faulty at several ends; a bit of it on the part of the APC is the authenticity of their intelligence report, it’s source and how the alleged culprit was interrogated, was his right to fair hearing violated, where was the warrant which necessitated the search that discovered the materials that implicated and indicted him? A bit of confusion on the part of the PDP as well, as it struggles to authenticate the credibility of its information on the source of the text message which got to the N-POWER beneficiaries. N-power being a government program, how come the interference of persons solely working for the state? How about the strong defense by the PDP on behalf of someone who they claim has no tie and relationship with them?
These questions and more will time and our investigations uncover.
