Father Arrested For Slap-ping His 24-Year-Old Daughter To Death
A 58-year-old father, Fannie Mtshali, has been arrested after he allegedly slapp-ed his 24-year-old daughter, Simphiwe to death in South Africa.
According to the Mpumalanga Police spokesperson, Brig Selvy Mohlala, in a statement on Tuesday, September 13, the father and daughter engaged in an argument on Saturday at about 11pm in Phola near Witbank.
The argument degenerated to a physical confrontation during which the father “slapped” his daughter, and she lost consciousness.
Police and paramedics were called to the scene but, upon arrival, Simphiwe was certified dead.
Mtshali was arraigned on Monday, before the Ogies Magistrate’s Court. The court remanded in police custody while the matter was adjourned till September 19 for a formal bail application.
Reacting to the incident, the Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela said he was saddened by the girl’s death and disappointed in the manner in which the incident unfolded.
“Though children should be brought up to be disciplined however parents should avoid using violence. Parents are the ones that must protect their children as well as their families. Gender-Based-Violence remains classified as a pandemic and we cannot turn a blind eye on this dreadful scourge” he said.
