“Islam and the Special Role of Religious Leaders in Peacemaking in the Banditry Crisis in Northwest Nigeria” part 3”.

“If you see anybody who is trying to mediate and bring peace here, he will be easily labelled as sympathetic with the group he is trying to bring in peace with sympathy. Gumi likened the grievance of bandits and herdsmen to that of youths who staged the 2020 EndSARS protest against police brutality and extrajudicial killings.

“Just like the EndSARS; the violent protest of 2020 is because of the police brutality in the south. The police brutality triggered a protest. This same brutality is meted to the herdsmen for a very long time. They don’t demonstrate because they don’t have Facebook and Twitter.”

He said everybody takes advantage of herdsmen’s ignorance and illiteracy to extort them and  the same thing is meted on bandits.

“This is exactly the same story we’ve heard from bandits they are talking how they are arbitrarily arrested, how their leaders disappear without recuse to justice and this is well documented.”
