Aba, Abia State — The long-awaited revival of Aba’s cultural and creative identity gained historic momentum on Saturday as the Aba Made Film Project — The Chronicles of Enyimba City — was officially flagged off in a colourful ceremony that brought together top government leaders, industry icons and key stakeholders.

Chairman of CADEES Group, Dr. Chimaobi Desmond Anyaso (OFUJI GLOBAL), who chaired the occasion at the Aba Town Hall, described the project as a bold celebration of Aba’s heritage, ingenuity and entrepreneurial character.

Anyaso said the film project captures the true essence of Enyimba City — a place where creativity meets resilience and innovation. He noted that the initiative aligns with the vision of the Abia State Government under Governor Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, which seeks to leverage arts, culture and tourism as catalysts for job creation and socio-economic transformation.

According to him, the project is designed not only to highlight Aba’s historic contributions to Nollywood but also to reactivate the movie industry as a strategic tool for social re-engineering, youth empowerment and cultural preservation.

He thanked Governor Otti for supporting the project and expressed optimism that the production would yield a compelling narrative capable of boosting community pride while contributing significantly to Abia’s creative renaissance. Anyaso urged private citizens and development partners to invest in the nation’s creative economy to secure opportunities for generations to come.

The event featured the presence of notable dignitaries, including Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe (represented by Mrs. Olewengwa), the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, the Secretary to the State Government, the Mayor of Aba South, and the Commissioner for Arts, Culture and Creative Economy. Veteran Nollywood actor Chief Bob-Manuel Udokwu delivered a powerful keynote address, while star actor Chinedu Ikedieze (Aki) led other artistes in appreciating the state government’s efforts to uplift the entertainment sector.

Governor Otti used the occasion to unveil ambitious plans to establish a modern entertainment village as part of the Abia State Stadium Village, a multi-purpose project that includes a games village and world-class creative infrastructure. He also announced the development of two five-star hotels — one in Aba and one in Umuahia — to support tourism and entertainment growth in the state.

Otti reiterated his administration’s commitment to restoring Aba to its historical status as Nigeria’s cradle of entertainment, recalling the city’s pioneering role in the early commercial distribution network of Nollywood films.

In his keynote presentation titled “Elevating Abia’s Image Through Cinematic Excellence,” Bob-Manuel Udokwu described the project as a strategic initiative with the capacity to boost the state’s image, expand economic opportunities, and reposition the South-East on the global entertainment map.

Commissioner for Arts, Culture and Creative Economy, Mr. Matthew Ekwuribe, said the project represents a major step toward restoring Aba’s legacy and showcasing its dynamic cultural and economic landscape.

A detailed synopsis of The Chronicles of Aba was presented by the Technical Director, Dr. Prospect Nlemchukwu, giving attendees a glimpse of what may become one of the most influential cultural works out of Abia State.

With commitments from government, industry professionals, and community leaders, the Aba Made Film Project signals a defining new era for Enyimba City and the broader creative economy of Abia State.
