The event was held to celebrate the seventh year anniversary of Diamond Football Academy at the Academy Stadium, Lodu Ndume in Umuahia.
Delivery a keynote address, a former Coach of the Nigerian Golden Eaglets, Ambassador Fanny Amun described Diamond Football Academy as a veritable platform that develops young talents pointing out that the Academy has groomed over ten players who play professional football abroad.
Ambassador Amun advised the players to work hard, show dedication and be discipline noting that these were the factors that would enhance the development of their talents while calling on them to endeavour to acquire proper education to boost their profession.
In a vote of thanks, the President, Diamond Football Academy, Prince Martins Ikechukwu Apugo explained that his passion for football and youths development informed his decision to establish the Academy.
He promised that he would continue to do his best by ensuring that more youths were engaged by foreign clubs, just as he did for Samuel Chukwueze, Kelechi Nwakali and others and thanked the invited guests for honouring the occasion.
In an interview, the Captain of the team and the Best Striker of the year award winner, Frances Nwaeke expressed gratitude to the president of the Academy for the platform and opportunity granted to him to be among the players to be engaged abroad, noted that they would not disappoint the Academy.
Several awards were presented to some players and personalities, among whom were Ex- Golden Eaglets Coach, Ambassador Fanny Amun, Former Super Eagles defender, Mr Yisa Sofoluwe, Former Special Adviser to the Governor of Abia state on Sports, Mr Ejikeme Ikwunze and to the President of Diamond Academy, Prince Martins Apugo, as Pillars of Youth Sports Development.
Highpoint of the event was the presentation of University scholarship award to a nineteen year old female keke operator in Umuahia, Miss Treasure Nkemsinachi as part of the Academy’s Cooperate Social Responsibility.
