Akwa Ibom: Defections From PDP Fueled By Selfish Interest – Barr Enoidem
International Chairman of the Maintain Peace Movement (MPM), Barr. Emmanuel Enoidem, has dismissed recent defections of some members of the Peoples’ Democratic Party ,PDP, in Akwa Ibom State to other political parties as sheer display of selfishness.
Barr. Enoidem who is the party’s Senatorial candidate for Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District in the 2023 election, stated this, Wednesday, when he featured as guest on Peace Voice, a programme sponsored by the MPM on Inspiration FM 105.9, Uyo.
When asked by host of the programme, Mr. Ekomobong Peter, if poor reward system may have led to pockets of defections within the party, Enoidem noted that those who jump from one political party to the other are not doing so for the lack of rewards or for the sake of service to the state but to satisfy their personal ego.
“If you see anybody defect from any political party, it is because that person is a very selfish human being. They always drag the argument that politics is about interest to the extreme. Interest here is in context. It is not your interest. The interest that matters most, for me, is the communal interest.
“When you interest is communal, then everybody will join you to protect that interest. If it is not selfishness, how will you imagine a man who has been commissioner for six years, governor for eight years and senator for four years, jump ship? So, it is not about the reward system and it is not even a communal interest. It is personal interest,” he said.
The MPM Chairman described the gubernatorial candidate of PDP in the state, Pastor Umo Eno, who had earlier called in to the programme to felicitate with him on his 58th birthday, as an epitome of humility.
He noted that the governorship ambition of Pastor Eno is an investment in a better future for the people of the state.
“In the last few years that I have come to know Pastor Umo, I have discovered that he is a man of depth. What is more consummate in is life is the depth of his humility. When you see Umo Eno, you see humility walking on two legs and any man who is humble can never fail because a humble person will give thoughts to listen to people.
“For me, we are investing in a sure future with the governorship of Pastor Umo Bassey Eno. If you look at his blue print, it is very consummate. A blue print that emphasises agriculture, rural development and consolidation of the infrastructure that we have in Akwa Ibom State is the blue print that Akwa Ibom people need at this time. I believe that Umo Eno is the future of Akwa Ibom State,” he said.
Highpoint of the programme was the presentation of a birthday cake to Barr Enoidem by the Peace Voice crew.
