“Abia State’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs, Dr. Ebere Uzoukwa, has slammed critics of Governor Alex Otti, describing them as ‘enemies of Ndi Abia’ for attempting to undermine the governor’s transformational efforts in education, healthcare, infrastructure, and agriculture.”
The Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Ebere Uzoukwa, has condemned recent criticisms of Governor Alex Otti, labeling the detractors as “enemies of Ndi Abia” (the people of Abia). In a strongly worded press statement released on August 15, 2024, Dr. Uzoukwa directly addressed what he described as unfounded attacks against the governor’s administration by elements within the Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
According to him, these criticisms are politically motivated and are being driven by forces that have lost their relevance in the state’s political landscape. He accused the PDP of resorting to smear campaigns as part of an effort to undermine the transformational work being done by Governor Otti’s administration.
“Those who are attacking Governor Otti are not doing so because they have a better alternative or a genuine concern for the welfare of Ndi Abia. Rather, they are motivated by a desire to sabotage the governor’s efforts to transform Abia State and improve the lives of its citizens,” he stated.
He highlighted the administration’s significant achievements in critical sectors, including education, healthcare, infrastructure, and agriculture. According to Dr. Uzoukwa, Governor Otti has initiated efforts to revamp the education sector by retrofitting schools and introducing innovative learning programs. The healthcare sector has also seen improvements, with hospitals and health centers being upgraded, modern medical equipment provided, and healthcare personnel receiving advanced training.
The administration’s focus on infrastructure has led to the construction and reconstruction of roads and the provision of essential amenities, while the agricultural sector has benefitted from support to farmers, improved practices, and increased food production.
Dr. Uzoukwa further emphasized that Governor Otti’s leadership has resulted in socio-economic advancements in Abia State. These include the empowerment of women through entrepreneurship and skills development programs, job creation, and economic growth driven by investments in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). He also mentioned improved security in the state through intelligence gathering, surveillance, and social intervention programs.
“Governor Otti is working tirelessly to build a better future for Ndi Abia, and we will not let the enemies of progress distract us from this noble goal,” he declared. He urged the people of Abia State to continue supporting the governor and his administration, assuring them that together, they would overcome the challenges posed by the failures of the PDP and achieve greatness.
This statement comes amidst growing tensions between the ruling Labour Party and the opposition PDP in Abia, with both sides positioning themselves for political dominance in the state.
