“Over 50 APC members from Bende have defected to the Labour Party, lauding Governor Alex Otti’s leadership and social welfare policies. This political shift signals growing support for the Labour Party in Abia State.”

In a significant political development, over 50 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bende Local Government Area of Abia State have defected to the Labour Party (LP). This mass defection is seen as a boost for Governor Alex Otti and the Labour Party’s vision for a “New Abia.”

The leader of Labour Party in Bende, Chief Iheanyi Frank Chinasa, popularly known as Agu Bende, reiterated Governor Otti’s commitment to collaborating with all political interest groups in Abia to realize the state’s development goals. Speaking at a recent event in Ozuitem to welcome the new members, Chief Chinasa emphasized that the Labour Party remains a unified and strong family under Governor Otti’s leadership.

Represented by the Chairman of the Labour Party, Hon. Eze Lawrence, Chief Chinasa urged the defectors to leverage their grassroots political experience to further the party’s objectives in the LGA and across Abia State.

Leading the group of defectors, Mr. Uko Joel Izuzu, who previously served as the Secretary of APC in Ndiagho Ozuitem Ward, explained that their decision to switch allegiance was motivated by Governor Otti’s stellar performance and his administration’s focus on humanitarian and social welfare policies. According to Mr. Izuzu, these policies have shown a deep commitment to improving the lives of the masses.

Welcoming the new members, the Chairman of Ozuitem Ward, Mr. Onyemaechi Ndubuisi, assured them of a conducive environment for their swift integration into the Labour Party. He promised that the party would work diligently to harmonize their efforts to strengthen the Labour Party in the region.

This defection marks a significant shift in the political landscape of Bende, signaling growing support for Governor Otti’s administration and the Labour Party in Abia State.
