A 27-year-old fisherman, Fatai Yussuf who appeared before a magistrate court in Lagos on Wednesday, February 10, has been remanded in prison for allegedly killing his six weeks old daughter.
The suspect who is facing a count charge of murder, was accused of throwing his six-week-old daughter into a lagoon because she was sick.
The accused allegedly committed the offence on December 27, 2020 at Ajanaku lagoon in Badagry, in the presence of his son who tried to stop him.
Yussuf reportedly returned home to lie to his wife and her brother that he took their baby to the hospital. The incident was reported to the police after the truth was uncovered.
The presiding Chief Magistrate, P.E. Nwaka ordered that Yussuf be remanded at the Ikoyi Custodial Center pending legal advice from the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP).
The court adjourned the case to February 23.
