Following the withdrawal of Oby Ezekwesili, presidential candidate of the Alliance for New Nigeria (ANN) from the presidential race, Buhari’s social media aide, Lauretta Onochie in a post on her Twitter page said integrity and massive support for President Buhari made Ezekwesili ‘chicken out’ of the presidential race.
She wrote: “Oby Ezekwesili, the Presidential Candidate of ACPN, has chickened out after watching the mammoth crowd that continues to receive Mr Integrity across the nation, she has pulled out of the Presidential Race, letting her followers down. Buhari will never let us down.”
Meanwhile, Ezekwesili in a statement on Wednesday said she stepped aside from the presidential race to help build a coalition to defeat the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party in the February 16, 2019 election.
According to her, her decision to withdraw from the race followed extensive discussions with Nigerians at home and in the Diaspora and an examination of the country’s electoral environment sequel to the 2019 presidential debate of Saturday, January 19, 2019.
