The Executive of the Students Union Government of Abia State Polytechnic Aba has dissociated itself against a media report suggesting that Students of the Institution had participated in a demonstration against the management of the School, which took place on Monday the 30th day of September 2019.
In a statement signed by the Executive President of the Union, Comrade Nwankwo George explained that AbiaPoly Students were not involved in any protest, rather that the organizers of the protest led by the Chairman Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Abia State Chapter, Comrade Uchenna Obigwe was the person who brought hoodlums to the School to lock up the gate and harrass innocent people.
According to the statement, the SUG President further stated that as a Student body, they have no business with NLC nor the Local Unions, and frowned at the attempt to involve the body in a matter it considers as purely administrative.
He further explained that anything that will lead to the closure of the School at this time, will hurt the students as well as their parents who carry the burden of paying school fees for more years than planned.
The statement therefore warned the leadership of NLC in the State and the Local Unions to stay clear of AbiaPoly, along with their hired hoodlums as the students will not keep quiet and watch outsiders lock up the school gate again, adding that what ever reform the management of the Institution deemed fit to make, is aimed at repositioning the Polytechnic for greater exploits.
