One Mr. Christian John has alleged that the Nigerian police brutality has left him in ‘everlasting deformity” and made him to live on drugs.

This was in  a hearing in the Abia State Panel of inquiry headed by Justice S.N Imo.

According to the petitioner , he was brutalized on two occasions, 2015 and 2018 by the police.

In 2015 , John had a case that involved the police who were invited by one Mrs. Umahi, the owner of a tricycle he was driving then.

According to him, Mrs Umahi, her husband and their houseboy attacked him in the Umahi’s house when he went for remittance.

Mrs Umahi told him that his surety had asked her to take back the tricycle as he the surety will no longer serve in that capacity.

Mr John stated that he lost one of his teeth when the houseboy hit him .

He further stated that he was whisked away by the police and locked up. He said the police refused him bail .

John alleged that he got a fracture on his hand whilst dragging with the police men who wanted to put him back to the cell after he had provided the tricycle as demanded.

In 2018, John said he was also brutalized by the police when he went to bail one Mrs Chikerenma Monday for the second time who allegedly poured hot water on a man.

According to him, the police tear gassed and beat  him up.

He alleged that his left leg has been shortened by 3 inches while  his knee does not bend anymore.

John stated that the police has left him in everlasting deformity, also stating that he visits the hospital 2 -3 times a year to clean his ears .

He requested for a N20M compensation .

The case was adjourned to March 2, 2021.
