The member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North/South Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, Rep. Sam Onuigbo (Odozi Obodo) has lauded the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company(EEDC)for heartening to his call and commencing the free distribution of pre-paid meters in Abia State.
Onuigbo in a statement made available to newsmen said he had on April 30, 2021, written to the Managing Director of the EEDC through the Chairman House Committee on Power complaining that the EEDC’s distribution of meters in the South East left Abia State out and requested that this anomaly be corrected.
The statement maintained that on the strength of that letter, the Chairman House Committee on Power, Hon. Engineer Magaji Da’u Aliyu had written to the EEDC on May 20,2021, urging them to immediately extend the distribution of meters to Abia State “in order to enhance accountable services while eliminating the phenomenon of estimated Billings”.
Residents in Umuahia, the Abia State capital report that the EEDC has commenced the installation of pre-paid meters for free.
According to the EEDC Network Manager, Mr Ozoezeh Onyebuchi, the target is to distribute the meters to 10,000 to 15,000 households in Abia State before the end of the year.
