Following the stalled Election of the Ukwa West local Government traditional rulers, earlier conducted by the Transition Committee Chairman Chief Sylvanus Nwaji , another election was today conducted at the office of the Honorable Commissioner For Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs .
Present to supervise the election were the Honorable Commissioner for Local Government band Chieftaincy Affairs Chief Gabriel Onyendilefu , the Ag.Permanent Secretary of the Ministry Mrs Joy Nwanju,the Director in charge of Chieftaincy Mr Ngozi Damian, the Legal Adviser to the Ministry as well as the Chairman, Abia State Council of Traditional rulers, HRM Eze Israel Nwabeke.
The election, which started about 3.30pm, had 13, out of the 18, Traditional rulers in the Local Government Area in attendance. Through secret balloting and thorough accreditation of the Royal Fathers present, in line with the constitution the traditional rulers system the elections were conducted freely and fairly to the satisfaction of all those present.
Apart from HRM Eze Dike who emerged the Chairman , other officers of the traditional Council include HRM Eze Nwachi 1st Deputy Chairman, HRM Eze Ikemefuna 2nd Deputy Chairman. Other officers also elected are HRM Eze Ndubuisi Ogbuji who won the position of the General Secretary, HRM Eze Kingsley Nwosu, Financial Secretary, HRM Eze (Amb) Obioma Nwaogu as Public Relations Officer and HRM Eze Ota who got 11 votes to defeat Eze Idima as Treasurer.
After the election,the Honorable Commissioner charged the new Executives of the Traditional Rulers Council to be of good conduct and ensure they run an inclusive government devoid of vindictiveness and bickering. He conveyed the desire of the Governor to continuously see the Royal Fathers as partners in progress hence he has prioritised their Welfare.
In his response ,the newly elected Chairman of Ukwa West Council of Traditional Rulers, HRM Eze Chinyere Dike , thanked his colleagues for reposing confidence in him. He therefore pledged his commitment to ensure that whatever is due them will always get to them.He equally enjoined them to continue to support him as that is the only way he can succeed .
