The newly built science laboratories, which were constructed by the Alumni Association, were officially presented to the School Management. It sounds like a memorable occasion with notable individuals like Engr. Nathaniel Nwakpuda, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Chief Chibuike Wogu representing Dr Chukwuemeka Ufomadu who is the president of the Evangel Old Students’ Association International, and Engr. Hyacinth Ugwejeh, the Head Architect of the construction. Also, the District Superintendent, Assemblies of God, Umuahia New Jerusalem, Prof Alozie Ayom, and the Principal of Evangel High School Mr. Williams were all in attendance.
The ceremony kicked off with an opening speech from Engr. Hyacinth Ugwejeh, the Head of Construction. He warmly welcomed everyone and offered a prayer for more successful events in the future. Chief Wogu individually thanked the generous donors who contributed their time and resources to the construction of the laboratories. He concluded by expressing deep appreciation to Engr. Hyacinth Ugwejeh for his tireless efforts in making the project a reality.
During the official handing over, the District Superintendent of Assemblies of God Umuahia New Jerusalem District expressed gratitude to the Association for their dedicated commitment in restoring Evangel High School’s former glory. He shared how he contributed his first salary as the district superintendent towards building fences around the school three years ago, donating three hundred thousand naira. He also recognized the Alumni’s effort in raising approximately 14 million naira for the fence construction project. Prof Ayim concluded his speech with optimism, expressing hope for the construction of new boarding facilities within two years.
After a prayer led by the assistant district superintendent, the district superintendent opened the building. Engr. Hyacinth Ugwejeh then guided everyone through the building, highlighting its features. The building has two rooms dedicated to the physics and chemistry laboratories. It also has overhead cabinets for storing chemicals and laboratory instruments. They installed a POP ceiling to block out the noise of raindrops on the roof. Additionally, there is a standard restroom with 10 toilet stalls, 5 for males and 5 for females. The floors have German flooring, and the building has a 2000 liter overhead tank for running water. Interestingly, a small wall from the old building was preserved as a legacy of the founding fathers. The building is well-lit and ready for use.
