An Abia-born philanthropist, Mr. Uchenna Okocha has advised political leaders especially those of Igbo extraction to always make it a prior duty to live up to the expectations of the people who voted them into office.

He said representation of the people in various capacities is a call for service rather than a means to enrich their pockets.

Okocha stated this when he hosted the Senator who represents Abia South Senatorial zone, Enyinnaya Abaribe, in his Obingwa country home on Wednesday.

The Senator had visited Mr. Okocha after he inspected the ongoing construction of the nearly one kilometre Ikonne link road in the Ọgbọr Hill area, a federal government project he personally attracted.

Okocha stated that he was honoured to host the distinguished senator. He extolled him for remembering the long abandoned link road at a time when the road was in its worst state.

He described Senator Abaribe as a man of honour and mouthpiece of the Igbo people, hence, his admiration for him. He enjoined other political leaders to emulate the leadership style of Senator Abaribe as that was the reason the people he represents have continued to vote him into office, thereby, serving a fourth-term in the Red chamber of the National Assembly.

In his words, Senator Abaribe described Uchenna Okocha as a big fish among his people. He said Okocha’s philanthropic gesture is no longer a secret as he had touched many lives by building houses for the less-privileged and providing essential household items for them from time to time.

Meanwhile, the contractor handling the road project, Engineer Anselm Anihi of Bugabi Construction Limited, while responding to questions from newsmen, said all things being equal, the project is expected to be completed before the end of March this year. He said over 500 meters of erosion gully has already been constructed.
