South east governors have agreed their Houses of Assemblies should begin the process of enacting laws for the Southeast Joint Security Programme.
Rising from a meeting on Sunday, the governors regretted the Inspector General of Police did not keep to the agreement reached with him on Police Community composition during his last visit to the Southwest.
They insisted: “In the circumstance, we cannot begin of it until the programme reflect our earlier agreement.
“The Southeast governors and their leaders request the IGP to revert to our initial agreement reached on Community Policing at Enugu.
The governors directed: ” All Igbo’s living outside Igbo land do obey all extant Covid 19 orders; namely Presidential directive on inter-state movement, WHO, NCDC hygiene protocols, Presidential Task Force and directives of South East governors and fictive of all governors where they live.”
The governors agreed to further engage the NCDC to scale up testing of coronavirus in South East.
On Enugu Airport, the governors assured that with the progress of work, they were hopeful that the Airport would reopen soonest, subject to Covid 19 Federal government programme.
According to them, the chairman of southeast Governors Committee on Akanu Ibiam International Rehabilitation, Chris Okoye briefed them on progress of work on the Airport.
They commended the President, the Minister of Aviation, Enugu Gov, other governors of the Southeast and the committee.
The governors said they have agreed to to hold a virtual meeting with the Group MD of NNPC on the issue of linking “our South East state capitals with gas pipelines along side with the pipeline programme of the Federal government which is running from Imo state to Lagos state.
The governors further agreed that Ohanaeze do submit a working in their next meeting on setting up of South East Stabilization Fund.
Apart from Governors of Enugu, Ebonyi, Imo, the deputy governors of Abia and Anambra, other Igbo leaders including Ohanaeze president, NNia Nwodo, Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu and Jim Nwodo were present at the meeting.
