FORMER ABIA AG, ONYENDILEFU, AHAM UKO, EMMA NWABUKO, 6 OTHERS SCREENED TODAY (READ DETAIL)

Members of Abia State House of Assembly on Monday resumes its plenary after their break and began the screening of the commissioner nominees sent to the lawmakers by the executive arm of the government.

At the plenary, Speaker of the House Rt. Hon. Engr. Chinedum Orji had informed the members of the correspondence from the Governor of the nomination of some individuals to be screened by the house as commissioners.

Altogether, 9 persons have been screened by the members as commissioners and out of it, 4 persons who were former members of the assembly, were asked to take a bow and go without a question in line with the customs and traditions of the house.

Those so far screened were Hon. Kalu Uduma from Ohafia LGA, Hon. Chijioke Paul Madumere from Umuahia South, Hon. Theophilus Odionyenfe Ikwuano as well as Engr. Emma Nwabuko.

Others were Chief Mrs. Love Adimoha Bende, Dr. Aham Uko Umuahia North, Chief Solomon Ogunji Ukwa East, and Sir Gabriel Onyendilefu Isialangwa South and Prince Ezekwesiri Ananaba Ugwunagbo.

Reacting to the questions from the members, one of the Commissioner nominee, Engr. Emma Nwabuko explained that having garnered enough experience from his previous appointments, he try to do things differently this time, by helping to consolidate on the activities of the government.

Engr. Nwabuko described it as unnecessary the issue of his long stay in government, since he has all it takes to offer to the government.

Another nominee, Mrs. Love Adimoha said she will focus on empowering the women in state to be more relevant in the scheme of things, regretting that despite the huge contribution by women, they are still been marginalized.

She promised to mobilize the women to be more active in politics and equally be relevant.

On his part, Dr. Aham Uko an Economist, harped on the need to increase the internally generated revenue of the state, as according to him, it will help to make the state more viable.

He said if given the finance portfolio, he will ensure that there is no leakage anymore in the revenue generation of the state, as well as to help fight ghost worker which he said is contributing to the unnecessary spending in the state. 

Chief Solomon Ogunji was questioned on what motivated him to embark on the demolition of illegal structures in Aba and Umuahia when he was commissioner for Environment and to the members surprise, he told them that he intend to repeat what he did, due to his love for the state to make it more habitable, adding that until extraordinary laws are taking, the society cannot get it right.
