Suspected ritualist Yusuf Adenoyin was arrested with eight human skulls in Akoko, revealing a disturbing trade in human remains.
Yusuf Adenoyin, a 37-year-old suspected ritualist, was apprehended by security agencies with eight human skulls at a checkpoint in Isua Akoko, Akoko South-East LGA. Adenoyin was traveling in a Nissan car from Akure to Osogbo with four other passengers when the Police Safer Highway Patrol intercepted them.
A security source in Akure confirmed the arrest to Peoples Gazette, stating that Adenoyin claimed he was delivering the skulls from Okene in Kogi State to a “jazz man” in Osogbo, Osun State. The skulls were concealed inside a sack of garri along with other ritual items.
Police Commissioner Abayomi Oladipo, in a statement, confirmed Adenoyin’s arrest and detailed his confession. “Upon interrogation, Adenoyin admitted to owning the skulls and explained that he was delivering them to a native doctor named Opeifa in Osogbo. He also named other customers, including Almonso, Alfaa Agba, and Oshoyemi, all residing in Osogbo,” Oladipo said.
Adenoyin further confessed that the skulls were provided by an individual named Imaila in Okene, and each skull was sold for between 30,000 and 35,000 Naira. The police chief added that the suspect would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Akure for further investigation.
