BREAKING: Supreme Court Upholds Lagos Gov. Sanwo Olu’s Election Victory

The Supreme Court has on Friday, upheld the election of the Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

An eight man member panel of the Supreme court dismissed the petition filed by the Labour Party candidate in the election, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, for lacking merit.

Vivour had claimed that Sanwo-Olu’s running mate, Obafemi Hamzat, was not qualified to contest the election as he had renounced his Nigerian citizenship.

However, the court held that the petitioner failed to provide credible evidence showing that Hamzat renounced his citizenship, noting that he is a Nigerian by birth.

The court added renunciation of citizenship of a citizens by birth must be registered by the Nigerian president, adding that the appellant did not provide an evidence to that effect.
